Expat Math

Posted in Updates on Sunday, November 26th, 2006

So, I was thinking:
I’ve been doing the overseas gig for 1,017 days. That equates to 2.78 years. At 84 hours a week I work the equivalent of 2.1 years for every year I’ve been overseas. Simple math then dictates that I have 5.84 years of experience doing what I do.
I wonder if that holds water [...]

Gig’em Aggies…

Posted in Updates on Friday, November 24th, 2006

Well the big game starts in about 15 minutes. Hopefully the MWR has the TV tuned to the A&M/ t.u. game. In related news: Bonfire burned the other night. Red Ass.
Ever been so busy you’re bored?
It’s been that way lately. A general malaise has settled in my office and I’ve not been able to focus [...]

Tired to the pulp…

Posted in Updates on Tuesday, November 21st, 2006

An Excerpt from Flat Stanley’s journal:
I had my picture taken in my gear today. It scared me when they said I had to have it but I’m glad I had the gear because today I actually used it. Here I am posing in the gear:

What I didn’t realize was that when you went on alert [...]

Insanity

Posted in Updates on Sunday, November 19th, 2006

I’m not sure what the proper designation would be for such a hellish 24 hours, but it sure wouldn’t be nice. It makes me wish that there were just a handful of Aggies around so what we could pass it back and beat the hell out of today.
I don’t think, since I have been abroad, [...]

Bugs and Apologies

Posted in Updates on Friday, November 17th, 2006

So, I owe an apology to the people in Iraq that fold laundry. It seems they aren’t complete morons afterall. You know the idea that no matter how good you are there is always someone better? Well the opposite is true; no matter how bad you are at a job there is always someone worse.
And [...]

Now that is a name I’ve not heard in a long time…a long time…

Posted in Updates on Friday, November 17th, 2006

So I got a letter today. I think it was my first since I’ve been in Afghanistan. Now, I’ve recieved packages and boxes, yes, but not a letter. Not that it’s anybody’s fault but my own. I haven’t mailed any letters so how is anyone going to respond to me if I don’t send them [...]

DFAC etiquette

Posted in Updates on Wednesday, November 15th, 2006

Ok, I have written before about the quality of the food here. But today I saw someone go a step beyond complaining and hurl uncalled for comments towards an unsuspecting person whose only lot in life was to wipe down tables. In short I witnessed a provoked attack of rudness. How was it provoked? There [...]

It smells of done

Posted in Updates on Monday, November 13th, 2006

Today I took a walk outside the building in which my office resides because the inside is boring. It has four dirty walls, an annoying sloped ceiling, a vile fluorescent fixture, and about 20 lbs of nostril clogging dust. Dr. Evil would be proud, it’s an evil office.
While walking outside enjoying the cool weather a fragrant smell caught my [...]

Mobile Lifentry

Posted in Updates on Sunday, November 12th, 2006

Ok, I know. The title is a bit stupid, idiotic even, but I lack the creativity needed to come up with a less stupider name. I digress…the point of this update:
One of my requirements for the schedulers under me is that they be proficient in, or be learning how to use, Excel. It’s a great [...]
