April 26, 2006

Posted in Updates on Wednesday, April 26th, 2006

Ok. The date is really not important. I just couldn’t think of a suitable title for today’s update; an update brought to you by the urging of one sisterOMD.
Muster 2006 has come and gone. An ‘official’ Muster wasn’t planned as the POC was redeployed and was not here to do the planning that was required. [...]

Devil went down to Iraq…

Posted in Updates on Tuesday, April 18th, 2006

We had a gully-washer of a storm yesterday. It was downright ugly. It started as a sandstorm, turned into a lighting storm, then the deluge poured forth flooding the jobsite.
We had to round up some sandbags to keep the building from flooding. I saw two Turks float away in the mud-flood. It was sad.
Thankfully the [...]

If you only had a brain…

Now, I realized that not everyone creases their jeans.
This was pointed out by a PFC as he was running the metal wand thing over my personage. He asked, “You’re from the south, aren’t you?”
I said I was from Texas and asked about the inquiry.
His response: “You guys are the only ones that crease your jeans.”
Some people [...]

The PX never ceases to amaze…

Posted in Updates on Tuesday, April 11th, 2006

I headed to the PX to get some extension cords for our new hooches. As is typical the PX does not take into account the outlets we have (European) and the receptacles we need (Universal). I suppose I expect too much of AAFES. You’d think after a lifetime of shopping at the PX that I’d [...]

Trucks, Travels, and Sisters…

Posted in Updates on Friday, April 7th, 2006

…wasn’t quite what I was thinking as I sat down to eat supper; a nice cardboard box full of ‘garlic bread with cheese’ from the local Pizza Hut trailer. I was really thinking, I’m a bad OMD.
I haven’t called MommaOMD since I got back to Iraq and there she was telling me to call her [...]

He search for you, you search for him…

I like Turks. Why? They make me laugh. Not at them in the rude kind of way, but the pleasing jovial kind of way. One Turk comes to mind - one in which I had a broken Turklish conversation today.
After spotting his truck, I went looking for the superviser but couldn’t find him. I asked [...]

And there was rain upon a dry and thirsty land…

Posted in Updates on Monday, April 3rd, 2006

Ok. It’s raining, or more to the point it was raining. It seemed to go on forever. Thunder, lightening, booms (of the natural kind), rain, and some cats and dogs. In summary: it rained a heck of a lot.
Needless to say, not a whole lot of work got done outside yesterday and it was quite [...]

Oscar the Mexican

Posted in Updates on Saturday, April 1st, 2006

So I took a little nap today. I shouldn’t have. It’s was a terribly slow day today what with my being pooped and it being Saturday and all it just seemed like the thing to do at the time. I laid down about 1630 and awoke just before 1730.
Things are going pretty good around here. We’ve [...]
